Ivan Toney’s big statement

With his type of form, he might be on a flight to Qatar 2022.

Just putting it out there…

Ivan Toney made a huge statement on and off the pitch this past weekend.

But who will the Brentford striker choose between England and Jamaica?

I had the pleasure of presenting this past weekend’s Premier League Match Day Live on SABC Sport between Brentford and Leeds United.

Ivan Toney stole the show with a hat-trick to lead the home side to a 5-2 victory over Leeds.

He was awarded the match ball to mark the occasion as a moment to remember in his rising career at the Gtech Community Stadium.

But that wasn’t enough as he posted a tweet to remind those who doubted him about his performance.

His form for the Bees has made the England-born-and-raised striker the subject of international allegiance as it is World Cup year after all.

He has increased his chances of sneaking into the Three Lions’ squad with back-ups for leading striker and captain Harry Kane limited as things stand.

Patrick Bamford is struggling with injuries and form, which leaves only Roma’s Tammy Abraham as his other competition as another option up front for Gareth Southgate.

He, however, also has Jamaican and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines heritage, which means he can also represent either of those nations should he not secure a ticket to Qatar 2022.
