DR Congo’s Chance Kasindi at the African Schools Champions Cup in Kinshasa

The Democratic Republic of Congo might have to answer some really tough questions about the team that represented the African nation at the African Schools Champions Cup that took place in Kinshasa last week.

The nation has been in the spotlight for age-cheating, with some of its top stars caught playing under the false ages making themselves younger than they actually are.

The latest suspect is DR Congo captain Elia Balamwabo who led his under-16 team to the African Schools Champions Cup title at the packed at Stade des Martyrs.

Previously former TP Mazembe forward Meschack Elia admitted to age-cheating which resulted in a 12-month ban, before he was cleared again to return and now plays for Swiss club Young Boys.

Another player caught is Red Star Belgrade midfielder Guelor Kanga, who represents Gabon but was supposedly born in DR Congo and is actually five years older than he says he is.

Meanwhile, Portuguese giants FC Porto have fired Chancel Mbemba, after it was been revealed that the former Anderlecht and Newcastle United defender has four different birth dates with different clubs and for his country.

While in Germany, another DR Congo forward Silas Katompa Mvumpa came clean about his situation to his club VfB Stuttgart, claiming that he was blackmailed by his former agent, who had changed his age and name to Silas Wamangituka Fundu.

Stuttgart said that they believed that Silas’s agent had altered his identity to increase the player’s dependence on the agent and made him one year younger, with his actual birth year being 1998.
