OFFICIAL: Australia/New Zealand to host 2023 World Cup

Australia and New Zealand will host the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup.

The combined bid of the two Oceania nations were awarded the tournament on Thursday, beating a strong bid by Colombia.

The status of the Women’s game being at a development stage favoured Colombia which needed the tournament to boost the local women’s game in their country.

Australia/New Zealand’s readiness was enough to swing the vote from FIFA’s technical evaluation.

The 2023 Women’s World Cup will be held in July and August of that year, while the qualifying process will begin in 2021 and end in 2022.

It will be first expansion World Cup with 32 instead of 24 teams set to compete at the 2023 edition.
