I’d have to be in the team as well
The Frenchman and Arsenal’s greatest goalscorer was the first name on The Chief’s team-sheet.
Former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe says Thierry Henry was the most difficult opponent he has ever faced.
The Frenchman and Arsenal’s greatest goalscorer was the first name on the now 50-year-old’s team-sheet when I asked him who would be on his Cadbury FC Premier League five-a-side team.
Radebe and I were chopping it up at the Cadbury’s Trophy Experience, where fans were afforded the opportunity to get up close and personal with the Premier League trophy.
“Upfront I’d have (Thiery) Henry and in midfield, I’ll have Gianfranco Zola. You see I’m keeping it old school and revealing my age,” he said before cracking his unique smile.
Henry and Zola were responsible for some of the most unforgettable moments of individual brilliance during Radebe’s time in the English top-flight, so it is not much of a surprise they made the cut.
He added: “I’d have to be in the team as well, so I’ll handle things by myself at the back.”
“(Then) I’d have Nigel Martyn as the goalkeeper, which leaves space for one more. I’ll take another midfielder, David Batty.”
The Chief shares many memories with Batty and Martyn from their time at Elland Road, including being key and senior members of the great side that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2001.

“This is a lifechanging experience, just imagine if you are that person who wins double tickets to watch a Premier League game live in one of those magestic stadiums. There’s a lot to see, they’ll experience London, the Big Ben, going on a city tour in the Red Bus. Hopefully they’ll get a chance to visit my club Leeds United. They will enjoy the atmosphere and learn a lot about the country and about some of the landmarks. That’s going to make that trip very special.”
