A Facebook/Instagram post by a mate of mine Khaya reads: “The size of your audience doesn’t matter, keep up the good work.”
This hit home and brought flashbacks of last week’s (Wednesday) special conversation with my favourite football player of all time Doctor “16V” Khumalo.
We brought Khumalo down to Cape Town for Diski Nites to talk about Big Match Temperament (BMT), which we believe is in his DNA.
There was no stage too big for 16V, thought his career he seemed to thrive in big matches.
- He stepped up to take the penalty kick and converted to score Bafana Bafana’s first ever goal in international football.
- How many South African football can claim to have scored against both Argentina and Brazil?
- Who can ever forget his contribution in the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations Final and that interception that saw Phil Masinga net the goal that sent Bafana to their first ever FIFA World Cup appearance?

We talked about all of this with the great Doctor Khumalo last week and it was amazing. The event was not packed as one would expect, but the conversation was rich.
Each time one of the audience members took the MIC, they took a moment to tell Khumalo what a pleasure it was to have the moment with him and how much they loved seeing him play.

I now sit here proud and thankful that we are able to put together the Diski Nites show. We had plans for the show, but it’s something else to see them come together over a period of 3 years as planned.
Thank you to the Almighty for blessing us with the strength do what we do. We have faith in you Cape Town. We’ll keep raising the bar.
Next week, we’re hosting Teko Modise as part of his The Curse of Teko Modise BOOK Tour.
Teko is based here in Cape Town and recently won the MTN8, which was the only domestic trophy missing on his CV.
It would be awesome if we filled the room up to celebrate one of the best players of the current generation!
